For 14 days in the summer of 1995, Christo and Jeanne-Claude's Wrapped Reichstag transformed the German parliament building into a sumptuous flow of silvery fabric. It was the completion of a 24-year-long artistic process, as much a tale of tenacity as of technical and imaginative genius. Through original documents, photographs, drawings, collages, and real objects from the wrapping, this book traces the full story of this major cultural event, one of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's most ambitious projects, and a symbol-laden occasion in the emergence of unified Germany.

In 1995 Christo and Jeanne-Claude completed the wrapping of the German Parliament - the Reichstag - after 24 years. This book and accompanying exhibition follows the 24-year project. It covers the negotiations with officials and bureaucrats, and the permit required from the German Bundestag. It was the first work of art which was debated and voted on by an elected parliament, even before its existence. In total Christo and Jeanne-Claude used one million square feet of woven polypropylene fabric and 51.181 feet of blue rope to wrap the large Victorian building. The book also contains photographs, drawings, collages and real objects from the actual wrapping.
