2021 N&M Press reprint (original pub 1954). xxv + 506pp with 30 maps and diagrams.and numerous contemporary photos.Published Price £45 The first of eight volumes in the 18-volume official British History of the Second World War covering the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern theatres. After setting the political and military scene, the authors open the action with Italyâs declaration of war and Franceâs collapse in June 1940. Britainâs painful neutralisation of the French fleet at Oran and Alexandria is followed by the first blows against the Italian empire in East Africa, and Italyâs attacks on Egypt and Greece. The Fleet Air Armâs triumphant attack on the Italian Fleet at Taranto, masterminded by Admiral Cunningham, is trumped by General Wavellâs even more successful Battle of Sidi Barrani in December, when vast numbers of Italians were captured for negligible British losses. The victory was followed up by Britainâs capture of Bardia and Tobruk, and the founding of the Long Range Desert Group - the germ of the SAS. The mopping-up of Genertal Grazianiâs forces in Cyrenaica, however, ominiously resulted in Germanyâs decision to rescue their ally with General Rommelâs Afrika Korps. However, the volume concludes optimistically with the successful campaign against Italy in Ethiopia, in which General Orde Wingateâs irregular Gideon Force plays a prominent part. The military narrative is accompanied by descriptions of diplomatic developments and technological innovations such as the arrival of the Hurricane fighter plane, the Matilda tank and radar. The text is accompanied by ten appendices, 30 maps and diagrams and 43 photographs. We have taken the opportunity with our 2021 editions of the OFFICIAL HISTORY OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR â" UNITED KINGDOM MILITARY series to redesign the covers and print on 140g silk paper.

Talbot Publishing, September 2021. xiii, 242 pp. (illustrator). Talbot Publishing, September 2021. xiii, 242 pp. Kresin, O.V. Butler, William E., Editor and Translator. Comparative Law In Warsaw 1800-1835. Clark, New Jersey: Talbot Publishing, 2021. xiii, 242 pp. ISBN-13: 9781616196585. ISBN-10: 1616196580. Hardcover. New. $95. * A title in the JCL Studies in Comparative Law, Second Series. The Partitions of Poland (1772, 1793, 1795) and Napoleon's invasions of Central and Eastern Europe (1806-1813) made the territories of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth an unexpected recipient of legal traditions and substantive law imposed by conquering neighbors. At the same time the science of comparative law was beginning to develop. Influenced by these events and a keen interest in German legal thought and French codification, Polish jurists debated the appropriate balance of imported versus autochthonic law, the proper role of legal education, the development of a legal consciousness and the social role of the jurist. This is the first comprehensive study in English to examine the genesis of comparative legal studies in Poland, and Polish contributions to that field, during this decisive era in European history. Oleksiy Kresin is a leading Ukrainian comparative lawyer; Head, Center of Comparative Jurisprudence, Koretsky Institute of State and Law, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Secretary-General, Ukrainian Association of Comparative Jurisprudence; President, Ukrainian National Committee, International Association of Legal Sciences; Associate, International Academy of Comparative Law. William E. Butler is the John Edward Fowler Distinguished Professor of Law, Dickinson School of Law, Pennsylvania State University; Emeritus Professor of Comparative Law, University of London (University College London); Foreign Member, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine.

Butler, William E. Editor. Kresin, O.V., Editor. Discovering the Unexpected: Comparative Legal Studies in Eastern and Central Europe. Clark, New Jersey: Talbot Publishing, 2021. xiv, 562 pp. ISBN-13: 9781616196554. ISBN-10: 1616196556. Hardcover. New. $150. * A title in the JCL Studies in Comparative Law, Second Series. Comparative lawyers from Belarus, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and the United States explore the contributions of Eastern and Central European comparatists mostly unknown outside the region in 25 essays addressing individuals, processes and institutions from the sixteenth century to recent times. Most names will be unfamiliar to comparative lawyers not from the region; some overlap in their geographical affiliation, and the boundaries of the region itself are controversial. Several contributors give attention to Slavic law and its place within historical comparative studies. New light is cast on the development of comparative legal studies during the Soviet era and some of the principal personalities involved. SIGNED LIMITED FIRST EDITION OF W.B. YEATS'S BROADSIDES, ONE OF ONLY 100 COPIES SIGNED BY W.B. YEATS AND F.R. HIGGINS AT END OF INTRODUCTORY ESSAY AND ACCOMPANIED BY BREATHTAKING HAND-COLORED ILLUSTRATIONS. Collection of 12 broadsides originally issued individually from January-December 1935. Containing both traditional and new Irish ballads written by Yeats, F.R. Higgins, Padraic Colum, and others. With engraved music throughout. Numerous evocative and emotional hand-colored woodblock illustrations, including many by Jack B. Yeats, brother of the famed W.B Yeats. Only 300 copies printed, with only 100 copies bound and signed, making this production EXTREMELY RARE. Signed by Yeats and Higgins at the end of their preface, Anglo-Irish Ballads. "Yeats is now seen as one of a handful of Irish writers whose influence and example helped create twentieth-century modernist literature in the English language.his huge international reputation is securely based on the mystery and grandeur of his late verse and the poignancy of his love poetry, but he first came to fame as the exotically Celtic poet of a 'new' nationalist Ireland: almost single-handed, he made Irishness culturally fashionable. Spearheading a great cultural renaissance, he moved into his maturity as the voice of his country" (Oxford Dictionary of National Biography) . It was not merely Yeats, however, who is responsible for arousing Irish patriotism. The Cuala Press, a small press started by Yeat's sister Elizabeth, is regarded as one of the first publishing houses to bring attention to Irish literature, art and music. Her production of Broadsidesis no different. "The glory that once was Ireland and could again be Ireland was the fire that burned unquenched in the mind and will of Elizabeth Corbett Yeats" (Colby Library Quarterly) . Dublin: Cuala Press, 1935. Small folio, original cloth backed boards with paper label to upper cover. Complete with what is almost certainly the original plain unlettered dust jacket (we can find no other examples of the jacket, but this is comparable to other jackets for Cuala Press books). Book remarkably bright and clean with only a couple of tiny spots to cloth. A few chips to dust jacket. Housed in vibrant red custom box. An VERY RARE AND NEARLY PERFECT COPY of a book of large cultural importance with dazzlingly fresh illustrations.
