Mass Market Paperback (MMPB). Zustand: Near Fine. Ruth Robbins (illustrator). Second Printing. The first in this masterfully creative author's "Earthsea" trilogy. Appears unread -- no evidence of read-crease to spine. Just a very tiny bit of shelfwear to very edges and corner of card cover. Small sticker to top right of front panel. Fabulous cover art by Ruth Robbins. Clean, tight, bright. Rare in this condition. "A haunting tale of a proud, lonely boy striving to understand all there is to know. He uses his powers unwisely and too soon, opening a gateway into the land of the dead, and summoning up his own Death, which, abroad in the land of the living, seeks to consume him. Ultimately he must meet Death and face it. A Wizard of Earthsea is a major work of fantasy." (Quote from Amazing Stories on back of book).

Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. A Fair 8vo hardcover in a Good dust jacket. 1968 copyright by the author; Library Edition stamp on the dust jacket's front flap but otherwise neither the book nor the dust jacket references an edition, printing, or print date. Ex-library with the usual treatments on the first and last couple of leafs and on the dust jacket. Some staining on the pages top and fore edges that bleeds into the margins of a small number of pages but the interior pages otherwise appear clean, complete and securely bound. The decorated cloth-covered boards are well rubbed--i.e., exposed--on the bottom edge and in the boards' upper spine and fore edge corners. The dust jacket is in a clear jacket cover that is taped to the paste-downs. Ex-library treatments are on the dust jacket's spine tail and near the top edge in the rear. Near or adjacent to the dust jacket's top edge there is also some discoloration and a couple of small blank white labels. Still, the dust jacket's front and rear illustrations look sharp.

First Paperback Edition. First Printing. Octavo (17.75cm); original pictorial card wrappers; yellow-orange edge-staining; [10],11-205 + [3]pp ads. Signed by Le Guin on the title page, beneath the signatures of cover artists Leo & Diane Dillon. Light wear to extremities, hint of sunning to spine, with some tanning to inner cover edges, and an early owner's name faintly stamped on upper edge of textblock; Very Good+. An attractive copy of Le Guin's fourth published novel, and the first to bring her critical acclaim after the release of the three novels in her Hainish Cycle. "Predicted to become a great Archmage, proud and willful Ged attends the School for Wizards on Roke where, goaded by an older student, he calls back Elfarran from the dead and thereby looses the Shadow, which first haunts him and then is hunted by him. This first part of the Earthsea Trilogy.has become a classic presentation of both coming of age and light-dark conflict because of its almost perfect blend of atmosphere, style, setting and theme" (Barron, Fantasy Literature 4B-98). Uncommon signed especially by cover artists Leo and Diane Dillon.
