Soft cover. Zustand: Near Fine. No Jacket. Cover art for "Pritcher Mass" by Joe Chiodo (illustrator). Pricther Mass states "First TOR printing, February 1983." No spine crease, probably unread, but with a faint vertical line to front wrap adjoining spine and some wear to edges & corners. Originally priced at $2.75. "Earth was finished . . . After a strange and horrible fungal growth had irrevocably contaminated the planet, humanity's only hope lay out in the farthest reaches of the Solar System where the incredible Pritcher Mass searched psychic wavelengths for living worlds . . . But something on earth, some ancient evil, seemed bent on the destruction of the mass . . ." 251 pp. followed by 4 pp. publisher's ads. OUR SECOND TITLE, "No Room for Man" (Manor Books, 1972) states "This is the complete text of the (Doubleday) hardcover edition." Third printing thus; the first Manor printing was September, 1963. Originally priced 75 cents. There's a faint reading crease down center of spine; call it "near fine." (Gordon Dickson was an actual Canadian-born science fiction writer, not to be confused with Carter Dickson, which was a pseudonym of John Dickson Carr.) "The machine that controlled all life wouldn't tolerate any interference. People who refused to be regulated had to be disposed of -- isolated, driven insane, murdered. A small group of men had dedicated themselves to fighting this Frankenstein of man's technological achievement. Secretly they laid plans to destroy the machine and all its works . . . including the millions of people who had accepted their robot-like existence." Wow. Fifty years ago, and the author already knew about Twitter, Margaret Brennan, and the Department of Homeland Security! Science fiction mass-market paperback. 158 pp. The two mass market paperbacks by the same author combined at one price to consolidate shipping charge, said price now reduced from $20 to $10.50.
